Non-Healthcare Client Projects

The projects outlined below summarize work done for many clients over the years. Additional details can be provided.


Client - Computer Hardware & Software VAR

* Responsible for the process design, programming design, and actual programming of a warehouse tracking system based on a Universe Database and a HTML interface for reports. Data entry is via a character based form, while reports are generated on the fly using Pick basic generated HTML.

Client - Web Hosting Facility

* Project manager: 250 node HP OpenView implementation based on a Windows 2000 platform.
* Project manager: Centralized logging solution to capture NT logs, IIS logs, and syslog entries from assorted communication equipment. All data will be stored in a SQL database. Query forms will allow users to review and correlate events.
* Project manager: Cleanup of SSL certificates and domain name registrations

Client - Envelope Manufacturer

* Designed, coded, and implemented a Data Warehouse. This included the extraction process from an Ardent/Unix environment to a target database of Microsoft SQL Server 6.5. Cognos Impromptu and PowerPlay used as business intelligence tools.

Client - Non-Profit Organization Warehouse Location

* Developed a real time interface between an order entry system running on Ardent/Unix and a AS400 /DB2 shipping and logistics system for a non-profit corporation.

Client - Temporary Staffing Company

* Designed, coded, and implemented a Data Warehouse. This included extracts from a DOS based time and attendance system, as well as a Cobol based Lawson Financials System running on HP-UX. The target database was Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
* Designed, coded, and implemented efficiencies between Unix, Novell, and Windows environments. Efficiencies included automated FTP processes, remote procedure calls, and dial-in and dial-out using Unix based tools.

Client - Candy Manufacturer

* Completed the discovery process in preparation a RFI/RFP, included analysis of the manufacturing, inventory control, sales, and financial areas of the business. Analysis also included physical issues such as terminals, printers, networks, email, fax, and EDI.
* Developed project plans for implementation

Client - Credit Counseling Agency

* Implemented several data exchange routines between the agency and their bank including bank reconciliation and positive pay routines.
* Implemented a data mart and reporting solution including exports from an Ardent/AIX platform to a Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 database. Crystal Reports and Excel used as reporting tools. Tasks included discovery, data warehouse design using a star schema, documentation, and training.
* Automated electronic interfaces, replaced manual system of dial-up transmissions with FTP transmissions over the Internet. Secure transports include PGP, PKZIP, GZIP, and HTTPS.
* Reviewed all IT procedures and developed new procedures for the Help Desk, user maintenance, device maintenance, routine hardware and software maintenance.

Client - Sock Manufacturer

* Completed a process evaluation which included detailed analysis of the manufacturing, inventory control (cycle counts, physical inventory), data movement, raw material ordering/receipt/tracking process, order entry, and billing processes. Tasks also included a Y2K analysis of a time and attendance system as well as all Cobol based applications. Deliverables included a detailed comparison between existing application functionality as compared to base ERP system requirements and a first draft of an RFI.

Client - IT Consulting Company

* Developed internal project plans including internal infrastructure, website design and deployment.
* Involved with internal policy and procedures including time accounting, project tracking and reporting

Client - Internet banking service

* Developed LAN/WAN enhancement project plans for technical support to implement.

Client - State University

* Conducted discovery phase and composed first draft review of campus wide data warehouse initiative. Tasks included interviews with key users, analysis of present warehouse hardware and software technologies. Report will hopefully become action plan for Provost to implement.
* Extensive review of end user’s requirements and toolsets.

Client - Large Retail Corporation

* On-site crisis project manager during a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Many tasks including:
a) management of daily operations of large data center (22 NT servers, 15 IBM AIX servers, 1400 frame locations, 65 applications. Large scale applications included SAP, Oracle. Medium size applications included various purchased and written in-house Microsoft SQL Server based applications.
b) Environment included AIX Unix, NT 4.0, Linux, Novell, Microsoft Office Suite, Norton Anti-Virus, Trend Micro Anti-Virus, Websense
c) in charge of consolidating and downsizing all environments including hardware reduction, application reductions, application consolidation, data migrations, lease cancellations, return of equipment
d) consolidated websites and design approaches
e) designed new backup strategy for all NT servers based on Veritas and DLT farm.
f) managed IT staff

Client - High End Travel Agency

* Project manager for agency locating application server in hosting facility in Atlanta. Tasks included
a) coordination of Oracle DBA and Unix DBA to install three instances of Oracle database and complete suite of web based Oracle Financials on HP-UX server.
b) coordinate date loads from development shop
c) help design backup strategy
d) help design support agreement and SLA’s

Client - Mail Order Business

* Coded application enhancements using Ardent on a HP-UX platform.

Client - Large Wholesale/Retail Landscaping Company

* Complex project with a multi-location company selling plant material, hardlines, and irrigation supplies. Project tasks included:
a) detailed analysis of the entire business including point of sale issues
b) developed a request for information which was sent to 36 vendors
c) ranked prospective software vendors, followed with a 1000 question RFP covering all areas of the business
d) evaluated RFP’s, scheduled demo’s and eventual vendor selection
e) helped designed 100 user campus IP based LAN including NT based servers (PDC/BDC), Microsoft Exchange, Norton Anti-Virus, desktop hardware and software upgrades, end user documentation, etc.
f) developed hardware and software standards g) determined specs for HP Unix server to run Progress Database software application
h) determined specs for new computer room including HVAC, electrical (UPS and diesel generator), fire suppression systems. Coordinated construction.
i) personally coded all initial data conversion routines from four legacy systems to a Progress Database. Legacy systems included Pick running on different hardware platforms, Great Plains Accounting based on a B-Trieve database, as well as a DOS based application using flat files.
j) personally coded complex conversion routines for acquisition made in December 2000. Source system was Ardent. Conversion data sources included text files, print images, and Excel sheets

Client - Medical Billing Company

* Coded several data transfer efficiency programs. Programs allowed for transmission of data directly from the Unix environment

Client - Retail Sales

* Designed an interface between a legacy Pick based order entry system and a on-line web based ordering environment.

Client - Multi-Location Manufacturing Company

* Designed several applications for a plastic bag manufacturing company including inventory control and complaint tracking.
* Completed an extensive Y2K audit of all manufacturing equipment, phone systems, office equipment, and computer systems. Audit included vendor verification and resolution.
* Designed, coded, and implemented an interface between a legacy inventory /order entry system and a web page. Extracts from the legacy system are scrubbed and pushed to a Microsoft SQL 7.0 database using ISQL and bcp, which is then accessed from HTML based web pages. Other tasks included the design of the web site and coordination with the HTML programmer.
* Assisted in the design, ordering of equipment, and hands-on installation of a LAN/WAN multi-location environment over a frame relay backbone.

Client - Medical Claims Processing Center

* Developed a Disaster and Recovery Plan.

Client - HMO

* Helped develop a data extract / reporting subsystem so users could analyze patient data.

Client - Property Management Company

* Implemented Ardent DataStage 1.0. Tasks included process design and hands-on coding of data extract process.

Client - Chemical Manufacturing Company

* Designed a data warehouse extract process as well as reviewed present Ardent based applications for logic problems.

Client - Electrical Components Manufacturing Company

* Coded inventory related applications. Involved in task force to select new software vendor.
